English
The children in the Resourced Provision loved the launch of The Magic Finger by Roald Dahl. They predicted what might happen in the story and thought about what they would do if they had magic finger powers!

We have been exploring synonyms for angry, learning words such as cross, furious, livid and fuming to make our vocabulary and writing more interesting.

The children chose their own angry synonyms and used them to create fantastic Magic Finger posters, before using their new vocabulary to write their own imaginative descriptions. We thought carefully about how the Magic Finger might feel, glow and transform when the character becomes angry.

Our colourful creations are now proudly on display in Thomas Edison Class!

Science
We’ve had lots of fun getting hands-on with our Science topic, Special Effects Materials!
The children have been exploring what happens when we mix and separate different materials. We started by mixing sand and stones and worked out that we could use a sieve to separate them again.
Next came the messy part! We started with dry soil and added water little by little to make mud, watching carefully to see how it changed along the way. The children talked about whether their mud was thick, runny, rough, smooth or sticky and, of course, thoroughly enjoyed getting their hands dirty!
It was a lovely practical way to get everyone observing, talking, predicting and thinking like scientists.

PSHE
In PSHE, we have been learning about the PANTS rule and how it helps us to keep ourselves safe. We talked about personal boundaries, knowing that our body belongs to us and the importance of speaking up if something doesn’t feel right.

The children enjoyed using role play to explore different situations and practise what they could say or do. We also talked about trusted adults and who we can turn to if we are ever worried or uncomfortable.

WELCOME TO THOMAS EDISON CLASS! 2026-27
YEAR 5 AND YEAR 6 - KS2
We are Thomas Edison Class and we are really looking forward to the year ahead!
We love coming to school, learning new things and, most importantly, being together with our deaf peers.

Our classroom is a place where we can communicate, learn, laugh and be ourselves. We enjoy helping each other, sharing ideas and celebrating what makes each of us unique.

As you can see from our photos, we can be sensible… but we also know how to have fun!
