At Swain House Primary School, we believe that the art and design curriculum, through the use of Kapow, should:
- Engage, inspire and challenge all pupils.
- Develop childrens confidence to experiment and invent their own works of art.
- Give pupils every opportunity to develop their ability.
- Allow children the time to nurture their talents and interests.
- Enable children to express their ideas and thoughts about the world.
- Allow children to learn about the rich heritage and culture of the British Isles and beyond
The Kapow Art scheme of work is designed in four strands that run throughout. These are:
- Making skills
- Formal elements( line, shape, tone, texture, pattern, colour)
- Knowledge of artists
- Evaluating
To ensure high standards of teaching and learning in Art and Design, we implement a curriculum which:
- Develops childrens knowledge and understanding of key artists and art movements.
- Scaffold and support essential and age-appropriate sequenced learning.
- Forms cross-curricular links.
- Embeds creativity. Supports children in making their own creative choices and decisions.
- Is knowledge-rich, unique and personal to the child.
- Is practical in nature and encourages exploratory and experimental learning through the use of sketchbooks.
