Safeguarding

The Resourced Provision takes safeguarding very seriously so that our children are happy, secure and free from harm when at school. The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the provision is Mrs Rachael Price, Teacher in Charge. Mrs Price has completed her DSL training and has been a safeguarding lead in both education and social care settings previously.

All staff in the Resourced Provision have received safeguarding training and understand how to recognise concerns as well as how to report them in line with both the school procedures and the Local Authority service protocol which is specifically in place to ensure the safety of Deaf children.

We work closely with external professionals as part of our safeguarding duty. This includes colleagues from the Audiology Team, Social Services, Education Safeguarding and charities, among others.

Children have access to a consistently taught PSHCE curriculum which ensures Deaf children are given the knowledge and tools to help keep themselves safe. We also have a Life Skills curriculum which builds on the PSHCE lessons to further support our children. These lessons are taught by a Teacher of the Deaf or Specialist Practitioner and supported by our Deaf Instructor. We use the SCARF curriculum and support these resources with West Yorkshire Police's Pol-Ed curriculum and the NSPCC. Please see a BSL user friendly video below which you can use with your child to support them at home with understanding the PANTS rule to keep themselves safe from harm.

If you have any safeguarding concerns regarding your child inside or outside of school, please contact the school and ask the speak with Rachael Price. All disclosures or concerns raised will be dealt with the upmost discretion and confidentiality.
